Privacy policy
Last updated
This policy was last updated on 2026-09-18. It covers everything this site collects, which is less than most sites collect.
What is collected automatically
Like any web server, the machine that hosts Beaconbox records the requests it receives: the page asked for, the time, the referring page, the browser and operating system string, and the IP address the request came from. Those logs exist to keep the site up and to spot scraping and abuse. They are rotated and deleted after a limited period.
Cookies
The site itself sets no tracking cookie and no reader login cookie — there are no reader accounts. Cookies you receive come from the advertising and analytics partners described below, or from your own browser and extensions.
Advertising and Google AdSense
Beaconbox is supported by advertising served through Google AdSense. Google and its partners use cookies to serve ads based on your prior visits to this and other websites. Google’s use of advertising cookies enables it and its partners to serve ads to you based on your visit to this site and other sites on the internet.
Third-party vendors, including Google, use cookies to serve ads based on a user’s prior visits. You can opt out of personalised advertising at any time in Google’s Ads Settings, or opt out of a third-party vendor’s use of cookies for personalised advertising at aboutads.info.
DoubleClick and remarketing
Google uses DoubleClick advertising cookies (including the DART cookie) for advertising served on this site. These cookies track visits to this and other sites so the advertising shown is more likely to be relevant. Where ePrivacy rules apply, personalised advertising is served only with consent, and that choice can be changed or withdrawn at any time through the consent message shown on the site.
Your rights under the GDPR
If you are in the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom or Switzerland, you have the right to be informed about the data processed, to access it, to have it corrected or erased, to restrict or object to its processing, and to data portability. The legal bases we rely on are legitimate interest for server logs and security, and consent for personalised advertising and analytics cookies.
To exercise any of these rights, write to [email protected]. Requests are answered within thirty days. You also have the right to complain to your national data protection authority.
Your rights under the CCPA / CPRA
If you are a California resident, you have the right to know what categories of personal information are collected and how they are used, the right to request deletion, the right to correct inaccurate information, the right to opt out of the "sale" or "sharing" of personal information, and the right not to be discriminated against for exercising those rights. This site does not sell personal information for money. Because advertising cookies can count as "sharing" for cross-context behavioural advertising under the CPRA, you can opt out through the Do Not Sell or Share My Personal Information link in the consent message, or by turning off personalised advertising in Google’s Ads Settings.
Children
This site is written for a general audience and is not directed at children under thirteen. No personal information is knowingly collected from children. If you believe a child has sent personal information, write to the address above and it will be removed.
Analytics
Aggregate analytics, when enabled, are used to see which entries are read. Analytics data is not used by us to build advertising profiles, and it is not joined to the advertising cookies described above by this site.
External links
Entries link to project documentation and other reference sites. Those sites have their own policies and we are not responsible for them.
Changes and contact
Material changes to this policy are marked with a new date at the top of this page. Questions about any of the above go to [email protected].
